Manual - Manual stretching

Stretching the hip flexors (iliopsoas):

Stretching  the anterior thigh (rectus):

In a supine position, one leg pulled back to the chest, the other hanging over the edge of the treatment couch, the spinal column is locked by the bracing of the flexed leg against the body of the therapist. To stretch, the hip joint is straightened by light pressure on the thigh.

a) Patient in a supine position, one leg pulled back to the chest, the other hanging over the edge of the couch and fixed between the thighs of the therapist. The therapist  grasps the anterior thigh muscles with both hands and applies u-shaped pre-tensioning  by turning the hands. To stretch, the flexing of the knee is intensified.

Stretching the posterior thigh  (hamstrings, ischiocrural muscles):

a) With the patient in a prone position, the therapist places the patient's thighs on his/her own.
S-shaped pre-tensioning is applied using a pinching grip on the inner or outer side, according to where the pain is located.

b) With the patient in a right-sided lateral position, s-shaped pre-tensioning of the anterior thigh is applied by using a pinch grip. To stretch, the hip joint is first straightened.

b) To stretch, the knee is extended.

c) This is followed by the flexing of the knee joint to stretch the anterior thigh.
